BLACKBROOK SURGERY PATIENT PARTICIPATION GROUP

The surgery patient participation group was formed some five years ago to represent and support patients who are registered at this practice.

We are members of the National Association of Patient Participation Groups and are represented at our local Primary Care Trust. We will be actively involved in local consultation with regards the Government’s plans to revise the way the Health Service will operate in the future.

We also play a very supportive role to the practice. We have assisted with the collation of health questionnaires, and are normally present at the seasonal Flu clinics offering refreshments and raising funds for new equipment for use in the surgery. Last year we raised sufficient funds to purchase two items of medical equipment which are used to test patient INR readings for patients who are taking warfarin. This equipment will now enable the practice nurse to take the blood test, get the result and give the patient directions on what dose of warfarin is to be taken until the next test is due – All this in one appointment. We have also just purchased a new baby changing unit.

We meet once a month, normally on a Wednesday evening and would welcome new members to join us. If you are interested please speak to your GP who can give you more information.

We would also like to organise some informative sessions on healthcare related topics, where an appropriate health care specialist will attend to give a talk. Some suggested topics are diabetes care and awareness, help for carers, and diet and exercise. If you are interested in attending one of these meetings, or if you have any suggestions for any other healthcare related topics please contact us on the email address given below.
