We regularly teach student doctors and junior doctors at Blackbrook. Student doctors (medical students) are students who are training to be doctors but are not yet qualified. They will usually be in their 4th or 5th year training courses, come from Bristol University and spend 2 weeks at the surgery. During this time they spend time talking to patients, considering possible treatments and practising explaining things to patients. This is a challenging time for them as often it is their first experience of making an initial assessment of a patient's symptoms. Although you may initially be asked to see a student, a GP will always see the patient and supervise the student doctor. Sometimes students will do home visits which will involve questioning both the patient and carer and other members of the practice team as well.
